Dexter: Resurrection has been on a roll, and episode 6 keeps the momentum going with one of the most memorable reveals the series has pulled off so far. “Cats & Mouse” manages to balance Dexter’s more human, emotional moments with some of the most clever serial killer plotting the franchise has seen in years. It is also the episode where David Dastmalchian gets to truly shine as the infamous Gemini Killer… or should I say, Gemini Killers.
David Dastmalchian finally gets his spotlight as the infamous Gemini Killer, and Dexter wastes no time setting the table for him. Literally. But the kill feels quick… until the final minutes reveal why. Gemini is actually two killers, identical twins working in sync. It is the kind of left-field twist that feels just absurd enough to work, and it keeps Dastmalchian in the mix for future episodes.
Not everyone makes it out alive. Krysten Ritter’s Mia is taken off the board in brutal fashion, courtesy of Prater’s prison connections. She was never going to be Dexter’s true match, but losing her this early stings.
There are smaller beats that really land too. Dexter opening up to Harrison in a way that accepts his son’s goodness instead of fearing it is quietly one of the series’ most human moments. Batista’s investigation inches closer, Charley gets a moment of depth, and Harrison’s side story adds another layer to his growing tension with his dad.
This is a midpoint episode that knows exactly what it’s doing. A little heart, a lot of danger, and a twist that ensures the game is far from over.
