Dexter: Resurrection – Season 1, Episode 3: “Backseat Driver”

Dexter has officially shifted into second gear, and it’s a joyride.

“Backseat Driver” hits the sweet spot between old-school Dexter and this slick new New York chapter. The best part? It’s fun again. Dexter is loose, quippy, and once more delighting in the art of controlled murder. There’s something refreshingly pulpy about watching him figure out how to survive in a world that keeps changing around him.

This episode also introduces the “serial killer dinner party” concept, and yes, it’s exactly as twisted as it sounds. Uma Thurman’s character, Charley, is slowly revealing herself to be the puppet master of something much larger, and Dexter’s infiltration begins here.

But more than just high-concept villainy, “Backseat Driver” refines what this season is trying to say. Dexter isn’t just trying to protect Harrison, he’s rediscovering a part of himself. Not the killer part. The moral center that made the old code work.

Everything clicks here: the pacing, the tone, and the setup for what looks like a showdown with a cast of killers straight out of a rogues’ gallery. It’s bold. And most importantly, it’s entertaining.
