Foundation – Season 3, Episode 3: “Once More, With Peeling”

Well. That was… a lot of skin. Foundation gets visceral in episode 3, and somehow manages to make potato peelers the most terrifying weapon in space.

Pilou Asbæk’s Mule is the most unhinged character on this show to date, and I mean that as a compliment. Watching him flay socialite Toran Mallow’s hand while keeping him mind-controlled and smiling? Absolutely chilling. It’s horror disguised as political power play, and it works. This guy is chaos with charisma, and I’m officially on edge every time he’s on screen.

The nightclub sequence, lights, lasers, psychics, musical numbers, is like Dune: Prophecy meets John Wick 4. High-concept, high-style, and totally immersive. When Captain Han Pritcher tries to sneak into the Mule’s inner circle, things get trippy fast, and he’s left gasping under the weight of the Mule’s mind. We still don’t know what Pritcher’s full deal is, but I love a good mystery man.

Elsewhere, we get a deeper dive into the Cleon brotherhood. The flashback with Gaal’s hologram meeting Brother Dawn? Poetic. The secret tradition of post-robeing chugs with Dusk and Day? Heartwarming in a bizarre galactic monarchy kind of way. This is the most human the dynasty has felt in ages, and you just know it’s setting us up for heartbreak.

Add in Gaal’s perfect plan to draw Dawn into her anti-Mule rebellion and a delightfully messy subplot with Demerzel mindwiping Day’s girlfriend-slash-drug-dealer? This episode has it all.
