Leanne – Season 1, Episode 2: “Fluids and Fibbing”

Well, bless her heart, Mama Margaret took a spill and now the whole family is playing house.

Episode 2 picks up right where the premiere left off, with Leanne still recovering from the gut punch of Bill’s departure and now trying to nurse her mom back to health… while also keeping up the charade that her marriage is still intact. It’s exhausting, but that’s where the comedy lives.

There’s something so real about the way Leanne handles aging parents, grown kids, and generational chaos. Daddy John is a riot, and Celia Weston’s Margaret is the kind of Southern matriarch who will guilt you from a hospital bed while praising your ex-husband over meatloaf.

The emotional weight comes in the hospital scenes. Bill shows up uninvited, again, and keeps saying all the right things in all the wrong ways. But Leanne’s done pretending. Her truth-telling moment is raw and funny, especially when it ends with her literally knocking him into next week (we don’t see the punch, but we feel it).

This is classic sitcom territory, but Leanne elevates it with heart and a big ol’ dose of Southern truth-telling. Still cozy. Still funny. And still gently reminding us that faith and family can carry you, even when your ex shows up unannounced to dinner.
