Leanne – Season 1, Episode 3: “Don’t You Want Me”

Some grandmas knit. Leanne tries on polka-dot dresses and hits the pub in Spanx she can’t breathe in.

Episode 3 is Leanne’s first official dip back into the dating pool, and it goes about as well as you’d expect from a woman fresh off divorce, full of lasagna, and emotionally supported by a sister who carries a sock full of quarters. But that’s what makes it wonderful.

The show really hits a stride here. Leanne and Carol continue to shine as a chaotic, loving sister duo, and their night out at the bar feels like the perfect blend of Golden Girls misadventure and modern womanhood. Leanne’s nervous vulnerability about her body is played with real honesty, and her attempts to connect with men who immediately bounce the second she shows baby photos are painfully relatable, and hilarious.

Meanwhile, Daddy John’s “secret” road trip with Bill ends in a police station, a fender bender, and a not-so-slick seat swap that only gets more absurd by the second. Ryan Stiles continues to play the world’s most useless ex-husband to perfection.

By the end, the episode gently pivots to the idea that maybe dating apps aren’t the answer, maybe a dog is. Leanne keeps its message sweet and simple: healing takes time, and sometimes you just need your sister, a terrible date, and a late-night Dairy Queen drive-thru to feel alive again.
