The tournament begins and it is gloriously unhinged.
We finally arrive at the actual start of the tournament and it’s worth the wait. This episode introduces a parade of new competitors, and each one is wilder than the last. From holy warriors with a killer baby to cannibals and road warriors of every flavor, it feels like the video game roster exploded onto the screen in the best way possible.
Mayhem shines in this one. She plays spy, saboteur, and strategist all at once. She even tricks her way into the race by stealing a dead contestant’s car, and it somehow makes perfect sense. Stu finds his old friend Mike, and their reunion is quickly overshadowed by Mr. Grimm riding in like a death metal nightmare.
Calypso returns to explain the rules, which are simple enough. Pick up a package, deliver it to New Tournament City, and try not to die. What could go wrong?
Turns out, everything. The packages are bombs, the weapons are wild, and the soundtrack is perfect. Rob Zombie’s “Dragula” plays as chaos erupts on the battlefield, and it feels like pure Twisted Metal energy.
The episode ends with John and Quiet turning back to save Mayhem. It’s a strong cliffhanger and a reminder that even in this world of carnage, loyalty still matters.
The tournament is off to a killer start, and there’s no telling where it’s going next.
